What is shrimp scampi?

Shrimp scampi is a popular dish served at Red Lobster, which features juicy shrimp cooked in a creamy, buttery garlic-spiced sauce and served with linguine.

Ingredients For Classic Shrimp Scampi:

  • Shrimp:  I have used fresh shrimp in this recipe, but you can also use frozen, pre-cleaned shrimp. Use small-sized shrimp for this recipe. You can always go for medium/large shrimp, too, as they will be juicier.
  • Italian Seasoning Mix:  You can go for store-bought Italian Seasoning or use my homemade combination of Italian Seasoning mix. I have used a blend of  Basil, Oregano, Thyme, Garlic, Onion, and Rosemary.
  • Parmesan: This recipe's most crucial ingredient gives the final dish an amazing flavor.
  • Butter + Olive Oil: I have used a combination of butter and olive oil in this recipe. If you do not wish to use olive oil or butter entirely, skip it and instead use what you like, maybe just vegetable oil, plain olive oil, or simply butter.
  • Linguine / Angel Hair Pasta:  What pasta is to be used in this recipe is entirely up to you. Whatever pasta you have in your pantry, you can use it.
  • Chicken Stock / Dry White Wine: The recipe that is mostly used is dry white wine, but I have not used it; instead, I have used chicken stock. You can use vegetable stock too.
How to make Scampi Sauce?

The shrimp scampi sauce is made of butter/oil, garlic, parmesan, Italian seasoning, lemon juice, chicken stock/ dry white wine, pepper, and parsley.

Tips to make recipe for shrimp scampi:

  • When you are prepping the dish, keep the pasta cooking, so that by the time you are done gathering all the ingredients for the final dish, you will have the pasta ready.
  • Keeping the shrimp cleaned in the freezer helps to sort out this recipe.
  • Store-bought frozen shrimp will work fine, but the taste of fresh shrimp is great taste and freshly cleaned shrimp will be tastier.
  • Refrain from overcooking the shrimp, as they get very chewy.
  • When adding butter to the pan, reduce the heat. Adding butter at high heat will separate the fat in the butter.
  • Ensure you do not burn the garlic, as burnt garlic makes the dish bitter.

What can I use instead of wine in the shrimp scampi pasta recipe?

I have made this classic shrimp scampi without wine. Instead, use chicken stock, and trust me, this recipe is equally good when stock is added instead of wine.

But if you have Wine in your diet, you can go for Chardonnay or Pinot Grigio.

What to serve with Shrimp Scampi?

You can serve shrimp scampi over pasta, rice, or on a side of salad of your choice. You can also dip bread in the sauce and enjoy!

How to store leftover shrimp scampi?

This easy homemade shrimp scampi is very good for leftovers.

This recipe is very good and will mostly not have any leftovers, but if you have made more servings of this recipe, then store the sauce with shrimp in an airtight container and refrigerate. Consume within 4 days.

How to reheat shrimp scampi?

You can use an oven or microwave to reheat the leftovers. Even a stovetop will work great on low heat.

Heat the sauce with shrimp on the lowest heat, but if you like cold shrimp, then enjoy without heating.
